Vision

At St Mary's Primary School, we teach PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, Education) to support the holistic development of our students. Through PSHE, children learn essential life skills such as emotional resilience, healthy relationships, and how to make safe and informed decisions. It equips them to understand their responsibilities towards themselves and others, fostering a sense of empathy, respect, and community. PSHE also provides a safe space to discuss important topics like mental health, physical well-being. undertaking of the protracted characteristics, and staying safe online, preparing our pupils to navigate the challenges of modern life confidently. By teaching PSHE, we aim to nurture well-rounded, socially aware individuals who can positively contribute to society.

Intent

  • To know and understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle.
  • To be aware of safety and risk issues.
  • To understand what makes a good relationship with others.
  • To learn to respect and understand common humanity, diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.
  • To be an independent and responsible member of the school, local and global community.
  • To gain an understanding of their role as citizens.
  • To find out about main political and social institutions which affect their lives and to know and understand what it means to be a positive and active member of a democratic society.
  • To develop confidence and self-esteem.
  • To understand the importance of online safety and privacy.
  • To be able to make informed decisions about personal, social, physical, spiritual, moral and cultural issues.
  • To develop financial capability skills for future economic well-being.

  • Young Interpreters Scheme – Supporting pupils who speak English as an additional language, promoting inclusion and peer-led assistance.
